Carolyn Hancock is a portrait artist residing in Richmond, Texas, whose work is described as contemporary realism. She is a pastel only artist, her techniques with the medium combining thick impasto strokes and texture with translucent smoothness. A lover of color, she uses it with a gentle touch offset with a vividness that defies the pastel medium. Unique to her sense of realism in portraiture is the feeling of an impressionistic work, with soft edges and a touch of mystery.
Hancock was elected with Juried Associate Member status in the Pastel Society of America in 2013. She served as President of the Pastel Society of Southeast Texas in 2014 and 2015 and holds Signature Status. She is a member of the American Impressionist Society and American Women Artists.
Best of Show was awarded to her painting Not Your Mother's Purple Hair in Art of the Pastel 2018, the open, juried exhibition of the Pastel Society of Southeast Texas. Her painting The Young Volunteer was juried into PastelWorld 2017 and Glimmer and Gloves in the 2018 Webshow, the prestigious exhibitions of the International Association of Pastel Societies. Hancock's poignant painting I Wonder received the 2014 Purchase Award of The Woodlands High School Art Trust Foundation. Hancock's art has been juried into regional and national exhibitions and her paintings are in U.S. and international collections.
