Brenda Cruz-Wolf is a freelance videographer and photographer based out of Houston, TX. Her curiosity with the camera started as an undergrad at the California State University, LA where she graduated with a B.A in TV/Film and Media Production. She was a freelance video editor for many years in LA and NYC before going back to get her MFA at the University of Houston in 2014.
Her video works are private moments that are uninviting and dark. The camera meditates the gestures and expressions that create tension about her identity. There is an urgency and internal conflict that is consistent throughout her work. Her abstract narratives and experimental filmmaking are influenced by Jonas Mekas, Stan Brakhage, Hollis Frampton, Pippilottii Rist and many other contemporary experimental artists and practices in addition to street photography and Texas palm trees.
