Born in Pampa, Texas, Andis Applewhite lives and works in Houston. She received her education in Graphic Arts at San Jacinto College in Pasadena, Texas, and has had numerous exhibitions throughout the United States.
Applewhite's work explores abstract symbolism and the dualities in life. Her interest in woodblock printing began with furniture making with her father. Using leftover scraps of mesquite, mahogany, and pecan wood from the woodshop, Applewhite has concentrated on translating her works into abstract minimalist screen and woodblock prints. Her work is being archived in the Artist Printmaker Research Collection, Museum of TexasTech University and can be found in the collections of the Library of Congress, Capital One Financial Services, and St. John's College, Annapolis.
Applewhite currently commutes between her home/studio in Houston to her farm north of Lubbock, Texas where she is learning how to grow winegrapes. She also enjoys building furniture in her woodshop in the Houston area.
